The Big Book of Team Building Games: Trust-Building Activities, Team Spirit Exercises, and Other Fun Things to DoSomeone has to think up the team building ideas, and then the ideas have to be tried out, and perhaps tweaked a little to make them work better. How do you develop great team building ideas? By looking carefully at the team and at the work place, is the answer.

Most companies outsource the setting up and running of team building away days to companies who specialise in them. That is fine, and probably the best approach, but it should not be done blindly.
The needs of the company, the skills of the employees, and the desired results of the event should all be taken into consideration. This can only happen properly if the company is able to liaise to some degree with the away day event experts.

It isn't essential that the team building ideas are complex, expensive to run, or impressive. They simply have to work. They should be fun and engaging for the employees. They should force the employees to extend themselves, to reach further and search deeper. Above all, however, team building ideas must be relevant to the long-term goals of the company.

There are two basic kinds of team away day activities: those that engage mainly mental activity; and those that mainly engage mainly physical activity. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses. Usually, team away day activities are a mixture of both kinds with some physical effort required, and some mental effort also required.
Developing great team building ideas becomes easier when you decide which type of activity is best suited to your team. Usually, a physical activity that requires strong mental solutions before any physical exertion can start is a good overall compromise. This forces the team to think things through before jumping in to do it. Often this is extremely relevant in a general sense to work place practices.

In additional to team building away days, consider having the occasional informal meal together with all team members, preferably away from the work place, as one of the less obvious team building ideas.
There need be no pressure on any employee to contribute in any way, other than being there, but nevertheless try to engender an atmosphere of social interaction. This helps to create closer bonding between team members. It helps to establish trust and respect, and of course, it's usually very enjoyable as well as being a little perk that employees can appreciate.

Leading Teams: Setting the Stage for Great PerformancesOne time, I called on to have a talk with my sister over dinner after she announced her plan to resign from work. With only a few short months of leading a medical team that provide annual physicals to our clients, she's ready to pack up and leave. The reason: she was frustrated and disappointed from her team members' incapability to follow her exact instructions thus, according to her, they keep making too many mistakes in the process. Because of this, she felt things were out of control which explains her frustrations and helplessness towards work. Things weren't going well as she wants and expects it to be and she want out. I continued to listen as she pours out all her negative emotions toward her team that went to almost an hour until she finally asked for my advice.

My sister, and like many more others, has a different view and understanding of leadership. Clearly for them, leadership is telling people to follow a set of procedures and expects them to follow to the letter. Just like what Henry Ford once complained: "Why do I always get the entire person when I only need is a pair of hands".

Having lead an IT and medical technology department for more that six years combined, I have learned through experience how to nurture work teams and recognize signs that makes them tick. Overall, for my part, leadersip is letting go than controlling. Identifying strengths and liberating creativity than imposing restrictive rules. It all starts with enablement.

Enabling teams is the very first step in bringing out creativity and achieve maximum performance among team members. The following are some useful tips I have learned along the way while leading people in my workplace.

1. Recognize Individual Strengths

Everyone one is unique and are very capable in their own respects. It is counter productive to assign an indivudual on tasks that are not naturally his/her strengths. This can be done by observing closely how individual members work on their regular tasks and if they are passionate and able to do things well in short time – a skill. Start observing things like: how they organize their desks during and after work, the way they talk, the way they write, personal grooming, performance of work duties and etc. These provide small but important clues on how members work naturally and what sort of tasks to assign to them.

2. Failure Is An Option

I remembered a phrase from a well renowned director, James Cameron, while giving a talk at one of the TED conferences. In contrast to popular wisdom particularly in the field of business and sports, he said "Failure must be an option. Fear isn't". Human as we all are, we all make mistakes – period. As leaders, one must have high tolerances for mistakes for it is through them that we discover and learn from.

3. Nurture Independence

The time when I spearheaded an IT team for about six years, my ideas (I thought) were the best ideas until we huddled together for a brainstorming session. I was surprised what my team came up with with a bright idea with very minimum project detail. Work independence means providing them the freehand to think creatively based on their personal strengths. Only one must do, as a leader, is to give and clarify work objectives. Objectives, in this case, must not be too specific as this restricts creative thinking and innovation. Objectives must be very clear and general.

4. Provide necessary tooling

This is the very basic need for every worker in a workplace – tooling. This may be in the form of office supplies, books, softwares, computers or other equipments. In my IT team, I do provide only books and fast intrnet connection and I leave the rest for them to think. One good example in my experience was to look for a solution to integrate communication services in our office. We have emails, chats, document management, and calendar from different providers and ofcourse, with different user logins. Such setup was too much to manage as an administrator. If we were a big company, I can easily opt to buy an expensive software of the rack to finally solve this problem – but money was scarce. With time, patience and an internet connection, I was able to scour for the best solution for a very small fraction of a price.

It must always be remembered that tooling is used to build something economically and much faster. However, simple tools can also be made to make other more complex tools. One of those simple tools, yet the most important one, is the worker's mind.

5. Promote Creativity

A leader's idea is not always the best idea. This is most often times difficult for many leaders to accept. Many leaders are trapped in the thought of them having only the best ideas to contribute thus lending a hand to team inefficiency – unknowingly. Each member has different personal experiences and diffrent set of expertise based from learned experiences. Each one has unique potential that when pulled together can always create maximum results.

Google is one of the many companies I admire that promotes and welcomes new ideas. Their 20 Percent Factor is one novel way of promoting and supporting ideas from employees. In fact, many of their popular services came from their 20 Percent program. No wonder they always come up with better ideas all the time.

6. Strip out rules that hamper creative processes

An oil painter depends largely on his physical capacity and emotions. These are the only set of parameters that he recognize and limits his ability to paint another Mona Lisa. As with any other creative process it must not be defined by strict rules or policies that are common among manfacturing industries. Many companies believe that implementing the same manufacturing stanards like: Six Sigma and ISO will produce the same maximum results. Humans are not like robots that can be restricted in too much bureaucracies and expect significant results. Humans achieve milestone results when allowed to think beyond boundaries of rules, beliefs or any standards.

7. Create a happy environment

Happy employees achieves better outcomes. Any enoromous task, no matter how difficult it can get, becomes easy and light to take on to a happy employee. I experience this first hand in my IT team even when faced with a seemingly impossible task. I noticed also that they are also the most productive employees yet with the most challenging jobs.

The Character of Leadership: Nine Qualities that Define Great LeadersBritish employees are suffering because their bosses lack essential management skills, argues the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM)

A report by the ILM revealed that 94 per cent of human resource (HR) workers thought that their senior managers are in need of further development because they are devoid of vital leadership qualities.

The report discovered that 36 per cent of HR professionals thought that the most important leadership characteristic was emotional intelligence, while 34 per cent said it was the ability to motivate employees.
Penny de Valk, chief executive of the ILM, said that investment in management training is crucial because businesses are being held back due to a lack of leadership skills.

He said: "It is a real concern that such a high proportion of HR professionals believe their senior teams are falling short. This leadership skills gap is holding UK businesses back.

"We need to get better at developing these essential people leadership capabilities, such as the ability to motivate, alongside the 'harder' technical, professional and commercial skills."

Organisations that recognise the need to enhance their management capabilities may benefit from employing performance improvement consulting firms who will be able to deliver strategic and tactical transformation.
Meanwhile, a report by XpertHR states that the number of people resigning from their job has decreased by 50 per cent over the past three years.

Employee resignation is still the most common reason for someone to leave their job in 2010 with an average of 36 workers choosing the departure method per company compared to 72 in 2007.

There are also less workers opting for retirement in 2010 as an average of only five employees per company took retirement this year compared with ten, three years ago.

XpertHR editor Charlotte Wolff said that there was an intriguing rise in the number of employees leaving due to redundancies or reaching the end of their fixed-term contracts since 2007.

She said: "[Fixed-term contract termination] is arguably an easier way for employers to cut back on staff numbers and employment costs during difficult times."

Organisations that want to lower their staff turnover may want to invest in performance improvement consulting services as business experts will be able to increase employee morale.

Race to the Future, a report by Race for Opportunity, has urged businesses to act now and adapt for changes to the UK's population as the University of Leeds predicts that more than one in five Brits will be from an ethnic minority by 2051.

Leaders Shouldn't Have Expectations

Posted by Online Tender Info | 6:50 PM | | 0 comments »

The Secret: What Great Leaders Know -- And Do
I see reps that experience some anxiety and stress because their expectations are set too high. They are not getting the sales volume they want, or experience anxiety because their members fail. Regardless if these people express their feelings to others or not, they want to see something in return for their efforts. We don't have control over what happens in our down line's business, but we can teach them ways to get better results from their efforts.

If you are ready to find ways to decrease your anxiety, and relieve the stress, then give away more responsibility. When you take this approach to coaching members, you'll feel happier, motivated and excited about what you do. This is how it works. When you find a promising new recruit, with all the qualities and skills needed to work in the business, think about how you can support your member without you feeling stress and disappointment. Separate yourself from the outcome of the member's efforts. By making no assumptions, you will want to find out what your members' business goals are, asking a few questions like:

o What kind of future do you see for your business and yourself?
o What are your dreams, and what commitment are you willing to make to achieve it?
o How much time are you willing to give to build your business?
o What can I do to help you build a strong business?

By learning what your team members want from their business; you can stay focused on their goals instead of dwelling on your own. When you can see their goals, you can better serve their needs and the members learn from you, and their business grows.

As you teach and guide the team, stay in the present and follow your plan for completing your goals. The only job you have is to guide and separate yourself from the outcome. It is up to your members what they do in their business. This doesn't mean you have no interest in your members, it just means you release yourself from the outcome of their business. Whether it fails or succeeds. If you are appropriately coaching and serving the members needs, your team should have better results. Once you learn how to separate yourself from the outcome, you'll feel more confidence and have a more positive attitude. You'll be able to motivate and support your team without feeling anxiety about what will happen.

What Are Leadership Qualities?

Posted by Online Tender Info | 10:16 AM | | 0 comments »

The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader: Becoming the Person Others Will Want to FollowWhat is a Leader? A leader is someone others follow. A leader should be competent at what others expect of him. People have confidence in competence. Competence means doing a given task well. Without this, people are reluctant to follow. How hard a leader works is not as important as being someone who is good at his work.

Another leadership aspect is having the ability to communicate. Being a Scientologist myself, communication plays a big role in leadership. Can a leader get his ideas across to others? If he cannot, his ideas will not be transmitted. Having the ability to understand others is very important. If one cannot understand his subordinates he will be rejected by them. People want and need understanding. So a leader must have this attribute.

Good leaders also have strong purposes, they have positive ideals, and they have a sense of strength. Some may be downright mean, but if their purpose is honest and true people will still follow.

People do not follow who they like regardless of what some people say. L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, explains that men follow who they respect, and that respect is a, "...recognition of inspiration, purpose and competence." He also notes that courage is often an important factor, and that people who merely want to be liked, will not make it. That is coming from a man who started a movement of millions.

If you look down the ages, you will find leaders that movies are made of, who fought the greatest battles, who had armies follow them to the ends of the earth. They had these qualities. The greatest wartime generals and presidents inspired the same way. In peacetime, with business and politics, it will be those who again have these same qualities of leadership who we follow.

Leadership 101: What Every Leader Needs to KnowAnd it is not a matter of people just blindly following media and advertising campaigns. Many people can tell truth from spin. Likely you have had your fill of spin at election time, regardless of what country you live in.

So there it is. To be a leader one needs competence, purpose, courage with a dose of hard work. And one also requires the ability to inspire confidence, and enthuse others. There are many good people out there in the world.

The effective ones will be our leaders. I hope this helps the would-be leaders out there. Good luck!

Did Great Leaders Also Stumble?

Posted by Online Tender Info | 10:11 AM | | 0 comments »

Why Great Leaders Don't Take Yes for an Answer: Managing for Conflict and ConsensusDid the great leaders in the bible stumble? Don't tell me that you have never stumbled in your life because you'll be lying. Come on, how did you feel? Did your enemies gloat at you? It is good that you didn't get yourself stuck but took courage and moved on with life. This is how life is and we will always be learners of it (here on earth). No single person is perfect. We have challenges to tackle everyday. By the way, what are the challenges you're facing right now? Hey, don't tell me! Do something about them, I mean tackle them.

I read the bible always. Why? You see this book is so unique. I have never come across a book like this in my life. It has all I need to know. It foretells the future. Can the bible be read just like any other book? No, you'll end up not understanding some aspects especially prophecy. Some of the books are interdependent and an example of this is the book of Daniel and Revelation.

There are some characters in the bible I like so much. They were great leaders but surprisingly they stumbled. They realized without God they're just powerless and hopeless creatures. So today I want us to study these great leaders who lived ages ago and how they stumbled.

King David

1. David didn't go to battle so he stayed at Jerusalem. It is during this time of being idle
that he noticed Bathsheba (wife of Uriah the Hittite). David lay with her and afterwards she became pregnant. David covered this sin by committing another sin of ensuring that Uriah was struck down to death while in war. God was displeased with this act.

2. He did not consult with God on the proper order of bringing the ark of God from Kirjath Jearim.

3. The order of numbering the Israelites by David annoyed God. He noticed his sin and prayed God to take away his iniquity.

4. David shed much blood, so God didn't permit him to build a house. (1chronicles 22:8).

King Solomon

1. Solomon married from nations which God had told the Israelites not to marry from.

2. He was not loyal to God as his father. Due to this reason, God split the kingdom away from King Solomon when his son came to throne.

King Nebuchadnezzar (king of Babylon)

1. He forgot that there is only one God to be worshiped when he made an image of gold which he set up in the plain of Dura (province of Babylon) to be worshiped. Whoever did not worship it had to be thrown immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach and abed-Nego didn't worship the image. This made him to command that they be thrown into the burning fiery furnace. Astonishingly, the fire had no effect on them (they remained just as they were). From this experience, King Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged there is no other God.

2. King Nebuchadnezzar become proud of himself forgetting that it is through God's power that made it possible to build Babylon-"Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?" As a result from this, the kingdom departed from him. He dwelled with beasts for seven good years. And thereafter he knew that God rules in the kingdom of men.

As a leader if you fail (stumble) don't give up. Just accept your failures and get assistance from God. Know that it is not through your own powers that you're able to do, but through God's mighty power.

Assessing the Value of Leadership Development Training/Public Health: Assessing Value - Leadership TrainingMany people have heard about leadership training and development and there is a lot of talk about how important it is today but how many people really know what leadership training seminars are?
It doesn't matter whether you are going through in-house training – as most large companies have today – or whether you are attending a leadership training seminar; it is important to understand what leadership training is and what it involves.

Leadership training seminars can conceivably cover any range of different topics. Anyone searching for leadership training seminars will soon discover that many courses have no relation to leadership and even those that do not mention leadership may, in fact, be just what you are looking for.

To find the perfect leadership training seminar for your needs, you need to determine what your leadership team needs. It is better to target weak areas first before trying to improve key areas where the leadership team is experienced. Bear in mind that the training budget of your firm as well as the amount of time available to your leadership team will determine which leadership training seminars are possible choices.

Leadership training seminars can be found in a lot of different places. Local colleges, universities and other training institutions are a good place to find leadership training seminars but there are also private groups and individuals that offer seminars on a variety of leadership topics.

Professional leadership coaches are often the primary choice for organisations that do not an in-house training department or for trade shows and conferences. Leadership coaches, like Callie Roos, offer leadership training seminars at nearly any location and tailored to the specific topics that need to be covered for the target audience. These leadership training seminars have a great advantage over those offered by colleges and the like as you can determine the where, the when and the content of the seminar.

Most leadership training seminars will contain a presentation on leadership skills. These presentations focus on innovative ideas and techniques that leaders can use in their environment. At large seminars there is also the opportunity to meet other leaders in the field. This allows for the sharing of ideas and methodologies making the leadership training seminar all the more effective across a wide range of markets and people.

Even if you cannot afford to send your entire leadership team to a leadership training seminar, they can still bring back the knowledge and the skills to you firm.

Leadership training is important for many organisations. It is important to stay up to date with the latest methodologies to ensure that your organisation's leaders are equipped to successfully lead and motivate your teams. Leadership training seminars allow your leaders to learn and expand their leadership skills and to bring these skills back to your organisation.

HOW TO BE A GREAT LEADER AND A GREAT MANAGER BOTH AT THE WORK PLACE & AT HOME (PART 4) (How to become a great Leader and a great manager)Great leaders are made not born says the great Vince Lombardi and nothing could be more true. No one is born a great leader. It is through effort and study that they become one. It's definitely not easy, but becoming a great leader is well worth the effort. The following are three time-honored steps to becoming a great leader. Following these simple steps will send you off in the right direction of leadership success.

1. Study, study, study. Find every bit of information you can on the subject of leadership. Watch videos, read books and find a mentor. Information is king. Millions of leaders have come before you and you can benefit from their experience rather than shooting in the dark. Start with information from some of the great leadership gurus like Ken Blanchard, Joel Barker, Stephen Covey or Ben Zander. Their books and videos will be huge advantage on your quest for leadership knowledge.

2. Become an innovator. The most important part of being a leader is, of course, to lead. Innovators lead people into new areas and help their followers embrace change. Change is the way of the world and if your organization isn't changing, its dying. Look for ways to improve your organization in every area. Change can be scary to people and it's part of your job to quell that fear and lead them into the future.

3. Empowerment. The people you are leading come to the table with diverse skills and experiences. Don't waste these talents. Empower your people to innovate and do their job in the most efficient manner they see possible. Micromanaging people never works. An empowered workforce is always happier and more productive.

Follow these simple steps and you are well on your way. Remember the words of Vince Lombardi. You can make yourself a great leader through study, innovation and empowerment.

EXPANDING YOUR HOME BUSINESS AND INSPIRING OTHERS TO WORK : Team Development For Your Business And LifeI'm just back from Las Vegas where I attended two wealth creation and marketing education events. I'm so pumped up with what ordinary people can achieve from home in an extraordinary business.

True home business leadership really pays off! And no, I didn't gamble one cent in Vegas - I actually gave money away!

As we move into Thanksgiving and Christmas, I am reminded there is much to be grateful for. I always teach my kids that this is a time not about us individually - what Santa will bring for you - but an opportunity to reflect upon our gratitude for all that we already have in life.

It's too easy to always be wanting the next material thing or success we aspire to - we can lose sight of everything we have around us and everything we have already achieved - family, friends, comfort right through to running water and food, every small triumph along the way!

If you can develop home business leadership and be successful, then you are already truly blessed beyond belief. No boss, no commute good income, working with people you choose to work with, not have to work with.

The last three and a bit years have been both the toughest and the most rewarding on a personal level in terms of time freedom. This is when I started on a new phase of my life, a challenging path to find a different way to take care of our family. There were times when I wondered if I'd make it. Did I have what it takes?

What my I found along the way I shared with my husband and 14 year old son - my daughter is severely disabled and we shared in our own way with her too. This journey has been something so special and precious that looking back, it had to be that way since it meant we developed the ability to survive in the worst of times.

I'm grateful for the people who I think of as mentors, who I am able to connect with through the wonders of technology we have access to, leaders who have helped me to grow my personal style of home business leadership and finally have fun with my business.

In business and in our personal struggles as a family, we've experienced great successes and developed new relationships. Going forward, I take great responsibility in sharing that home business leadership ability and marketing strategies with anyone who wants to change their life as well.

Being an entrepreneur, and moreover a successful home business leader, requires you make MANY changes in your life, sometimes a leap of faith, frequently stepping outside your comfort zone! So you MUST believe in yourself and in your ability to inspire others.

It requires you NEVER give up on yourself and to develop that inner strength in others. It requires your passion, dedication and endless patience.

You can only do that when you truly get up close and personal with your deepest WHY - your reason d'etre, your 'calling'. It underpins your contribution to others around you, the value of your leadership, and how important each and everyone of us are ... someone's WHY can never be underestimated, but it sometimes needs discovering and nurturing.

So from all my gratitude, a great reward came forth during my Vegas escapade. I got to meet in person, shake the hand of an amazing guy, Simon Sinek author of 'Start with Why' who I've mentioned in previous blog posts and has just partnered with Pro to develop this new module. Simon placed a small silver token in my hand ... and with an twinkle in his eye, he told me to keep inspiring others.

Through home business leadership, I encourage you too to pay it forward and inspire others to action.

Why People Dislike Their Boss

Posted by Online Tender Info | 10:50 AM | | 0 comments »

30 Reasons Employees Hate Their Managers: What Your People May Be Thinking and What You Can Do About ItIf you are a manager or supervisor and feel that you are not liked on the job or that people talk behind your back, you are probably right. It's not that you are a bad person- rather, it's simply that dislike for the boss is extremely common and, equally important, your task is an exceedingly difficult one. I suppose the first reason for disliking a boss is very simple- we all have an ego and very few of us like being told what to do. And yet telling people what to do is a boss's job so right off the bat being the boss and being liked at the same time is something of a conundrum.

In fact, obeying authority is not really in our nature- instead we submit to forces greater than us for unavoidable reasons. So doing what the boss says is often more akin to submission, sometimes even humiliation, rather than a spirit of cooperation. It would be an exaggeration to say that it is always like this with bosses, but it is often enough to make it a major point.

Another factor is fear. Most people who have jobs don't want to lose them. Obviously, those people who do not have a particular need for any given job will probably move on or quit fairly quickly. Since you as the boss have a great influence as to whether somebody will lose their job or not, there is a great deal of fear among workers that if they aren't always busy doing their job to the best of their abilities, they might get fired. Plenty of workers spend their time on the job scoping to see if the boss is watching. It is also hard to talk to the boss in a natural way. After all, if the boss dislikes you, he may try to fire you.

So many people end up just faking friendliness to the boss when their true feelings toward the boss as a person are ambivalent and confused. Finally, everybody hates an angry or screaming boss. They also hate jabs or put-downs from the boss, even if the boss didn't mean any real harm. My advice? If you're a boss, be fair, careful, and kind and remember it's getting the job done that counts and that human beings are doing that for you. And you may have to be a little thick-skinned. That's the price of bosshood.

Coaching Skills for Leaders in the Workplace: How to Develop, Motivate and Get the Best from Your StaffResearch has shown that people perform at higher levels when they are coached as opposed to "managed". So, you might be asking, what is coaching, in a nutshell? What are some of the tools I can use as a leader? How, specifically, do I have a "coaching" conversation?
Coaching is about inspiring and empowering others through meaningful conversations and effective questioning. It trusts that people possess the wisdom they need to discover and realize their own potential. Coaching meets a certain need for many people: it's a forum for objective conversation and full exploration. It's a rare opportunity for an individual to focus solely on him or herself for a full hour on a regular basis. It's a conversation different from what you would have with colleagues, family, or friends. It's a place to get support when counselling isn't really the answer. It's for people who are already doing well in many areas, but are seeking renewed opportunities for growth.
Coaching is both a science and an art. It's about the combination of theory, practice, and interpersonal finesse. There are some good coach training programs that address these components in depth - which one article on the topic could never hope to duplicate.
There are, nonetheless, some coaching concepts of which to be aware: some 'nuts and bolts' that you can begin to incorporate into your own style of conversation and leadership. These, in my humble opinion, are the essentials:
Most importantly, you need to engage the interchange from a place of genuine curiosity: asking questions (and more questions) without anticipating or providing the answers, and listening carefully without assuming or rehearsing. It's not about your interpretations; it's about the coachee finding his or her own answers as you ask the questions that foster the search.
This is often easier said than done, but it's a skill to be refined.
The other components of a typical coaching conversation, on top of active listening and purposeful questioning, include supporting and acknowledging, making requests, and providing the structure of accountability (the coachee is ultimately accountable only to himself, of course, but tends to stay in action when he knows that he will be reporting back to you on his successes).
These components in action might look something like this - a basic six-step coaching model:
1. Setting the stage:
Why are we having this conversation? What brought you here? What are our respective roles?
2. Formulating and focusing the issues:
What's going on? What specifically do you want to change or accomplish?
3. Asking questions for further clarification and deeper exploration:
What does that really mean? What area(s) do you want to work on first? What is important about this to you?
4. Developing goals through solution-focused questions:
What will it look like when it's how you want it to be? What exactly will you be thinking/feeling/doing when you reach your desired state?
5. Developing an action plan (making requests and offering feedback if appropriate):
What do you need to do to make this happen? What strengths do you need to draw on, and what supports will you need? What is the first step? How will you know that you're moving toward your goal? Can I ask you to experiment with...?
6. Following up (the process begins again):
What went well last week, and why? Congratulations! How can you do more of that? Where did you get stuck? Why? What do you most want to focus on now What do you most need to do to keep moving forward?
The important thing to remember throughout the process is that the relationship is key, and that you don't need to have the answers. Getting caught up in doing it the 'right way' and worrying too much about the questions you ask will only impede the process. These concerns quickly become non-issues as you develop trust and rapport, and when you truly approach the conversation with genuine interest, concern, and selflessness.
Happy coaching!

Hiring and Developing Your Management Team for Success: The Skill Set MatrixAre leaders born or trained? This is a perpetual question that is being argued by scientists and researchers all over the world. Although there are many people who were born a leader there are many others who have to strive hard to attain their leadership position. So what are the steps required to develop leadership skills?

Developing leadership is a slow process. If you own a business, you know how important it is to have a good management team consisting of good people with leadership skills. Without a leader an organization can never reach its fullest strength and attain its goal. Having good leaders is the headache of all big and small organizations.

Developing leadership cannot be neglected. You should train the candidates in many areas. The first characteristic a leader has to possess is good listening skills. Good leaders always listen to what other people are saying. Speaking one's opinion too much and refusing to listen to other people's opinions is the formula for failure. Having good listening skills means that you really know how to listen and understand people. You take into account the viewpoint of others and try your best to satisfy other people's needs.

Another important characteristic of good leaders is responsibility. You, as a leader, are responsible for all the development or backlog of your organization. You should be trained to do the best to make your organization develop to its fullest capacity. If you are in the business world, this means you should feel the responsibility to widen your market, increase sales, improve working conditions and get more profit for your corporation. You should not let your personal interests interfere with those of the organization you are working for.

A good leader also knows how to read people. You should know what your employees or co-workers are thinking about. You should connect with all the people you need to connect with and be a social person. If you can understand other people well then you have a very high chance of becoming an excellent leader. The skill of reading other people is very hard to learn and you may have to learn it from experience. There will be no rigorous course teaching you how to read other people's minds. Your experience, knowledge and personal way of thinking will help you develop this skill.

Developing leadership skills is not at all easy, but one should not be afraid of it either. With time and effort, one can become one of the best leaders in one field or another. Effort plays a very important part in achieving this goal.
